The Marralomeda Community exists so that people with an intellectual disability may have the dignity and quality of life that is their birthright.
Marralomeda is a Christian community where people with and without intellectual disability share life together.
Nineteen people with intellectual disability live in four homes in Redwood with those who support them.
Through ordinary daily activities we support each other and enable the unique gift of each person to be recognised and celebrated.
In November 1989 Anne-Marie and Roger Pike and their family welcomed Ann Miller and Margaret Bowring from the Templeton Centre in Christchurch to live with them. Since then many other people with an intellectual disability have made Marralomeda their home.
Marralomeda was inspired by the concept of the LâArche communities founded by Jean Vanier.
